5 Jokowi's Project in Papua for the Welfare of Citizens

During President Joko Widodo's administration, Papua was one of the areas that became the focal point of development. Various infrastructures are presented as concrete steps to strengthen the economy of the people of Papua.
Here are some of the infrastructures that President Jokowi focused on in developing Papua:
.
1. Trans Papua Road
The Trans Papua road project is 4,330.07 kilometers connecting the provinces of West Papua and Papua Province and extends from the city of Sorong in the province of West Papua to Merauke in the province of Papua. This infrastructure development has become the focus of the government in improving the economy of the Papuan people, reducing income disparities and reducing high prices in each region.
.
The process is divided into two provinces, namely in West Papua along the 1,070.62 Km, and in Papua with a total length of 3,259.46 Km. This road construction was inaugurated in 2018.
.
2. Hamadi-Holtekam Long Bridge
This bridge became the first bridge in Indonesia that was designed with a tourist destination. With this bridge, the city of Jayapura is a gateway that borders directly with neighboring country, Papua New Guinea. This bridge will make it easier for people who want to go to the Koya or Arso area which is the location of industrial development in the future.
.
To note also, the construction of the Holtekamp bridge was also the first bridge to be shipped in its entirety and furthest because it covered a distance of 3,200 km and took 28 days to travel. The 1328-meter bridge, including the 732-meter main span, is above Youtefa Bay which connects Jayapura City with Muara Tami District in Papua Province. Later the travel time from Jayapura to the Skouw border will be faster than 2.5 hours to 60 minutes.
.
According to President Jokowi, it is hoped that this bridge will grow a new economic point in Jayapura and its surroundings because it can shorten the distance between the cities of Jayapura and Skouw to cut the time in half from 2.5 hours to 1 hour. The construction of this bridge was inaugurated in July 2019.
.
3. Electricity Infrastructure in Papua and West Papua
In addition to road and bridge infrastructure, President Joko Widodo also built six infrastructures that were inaugurated in October 2016. These include the Orya Genyem 2x10 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant, 2x1 25 MW Prafi Mini Hydro Power Plant, 70 kilovolt High Voltage Air Line Genyem-Waena-Jayapura along 174.6 kilo meters of circuits.
.
In addition, there are 70 kilo Volt Holtekamp-Jayapura High Voltage Airways (SUTT) along 43.4 kilo meters of the circuit, Waena-Sentani 20 Megavolt Ampere substation and Jayapura 20 Megavolt Ampere substation and Jayapura 20 Megavolt Ampere substation.
.
4. Sentani Airport
Sentani Airport is located in Sentani City, Jayapura Regency and is approximately 40 km from the center of Jayapura City. This airport is the largest airport in Papua and the main hub to the interior of Papua. Previously, this airport was a class I airport which eventually made a number of improvements to several facilities such as extending runways, expanding parking lots, aprons, etc. to support the target of becoming an international airport that was inaugurated in 2017.
.
In addition, in the conversion to an international airport, there were several developments that were carried out, namely the development of arrival terminals, domestic and international departures, custom, quarantine and a number of other facilities.
.
5. Development of the Indonesia - Papua New Guinea Border Road
At present the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is carrying out construction of the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border road from Merauke to Jayapura in Papua Province along 1,098. Quoted from pu.go.id The development of this border is also a plan of President Joko Widodo in developing Indonesia from the periphery by strengthening regions and villages within the framework of a unitary state and opening isolated areas, reducing costly fees and improving the quality of life of the people.
.
One of the border roads being worked on is the 5.52 km Oksibil – Towe Hitam-Ubrup – Jayapura Road. Construction work starts from KM 15.5 to KM 21.2 in Gunung Bintang Regency. The challenges in the construction of border roads in Papua are natural conditions that are still in the form of forests, mountains and weather. Besides that, the availability of construction materials is also limited in Papua. It is planned that this border will be completed by the end of 2019.
