Health in Papua Given Special Attention by the Government of Indonesia

Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto asked the Heads of Health Services in Papua to pay serious attention to stunting and the high maternal and infant mortality rates.

"From the data I received, Papua is currently still facing the problem of high maternal mortality, infant mortality, prevalence of malnutrition and stunting, certain infectious and non-communicable diseases," he said at the opening of the Regional Health Work Meeting (Rakerkesda) II 2019 Papua Province level in Jayapura, Wednesday.

In addition, he said, several social determinants have not yet been resolved, such as clean water supply, household sanitation, food security, access to information and education, especially for women, smoking-related behavior, eating patterns, and consumption patterns.

According to him, the goal of the 2020-2024 RPJMN is to realize an independent, advanced, just and prosperous Indonesian society through accelerated development in various fields by emphasizing the establishment of a solid economic structure based on competitive advantage in various regions supported by qualified and empowered human resources competitiveness.

At the 2019 Rakerkesnas which was officially opened by President Joko Widodo stressed the importance of infrastructure and human resource development to support public health.

"I express my high appreciation to the Governor of the Papua Province and its staff who have supported the Ministry of Health's program to realize the highest degree of public health," he said.

Minister of Health stressed, would pay special attention to Papua. In fact, because of his love, then Papua became his first working visit.

Therefore, he has assigned one of his staff specifically to work in Papua. In addition, he is also committed to improving the HR of doctors through the Specialist Education Program (PPDS).
