KOTAKU (Cities Without Slums) Program Completes 9 Slum City Settlements

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to strive to realize a program called Cities Without Slums, abbreviated as Kotaku. The program focuses on preventing and improving the quality of slums by increasing the role of the community and local government.

In Papua, the government is targeting as many as 39 villages which will be addressed at a cost of Rp 3 billion. "There is a community-based Kotaku program. We involve the community to fix their own city," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

At present, the Ministry of PUPR through the PUPR city of jayapura has completed 9 slum city locations through the city program. Kotaku's activities focus on indicators of slum areas based on the Decree of the Mayor of Jayapura.

These indicators include, among other things, the problem of irregular development that is still high, sanitation problems, especially settlements around the seaside, on the banks of the river, in the hills and other densely populated areas, and the problem of clean water. The nine locations of my city program are Awiyo, Bayangkara, Gurabesi, Hamadi, Imbi Mandala, Tanjungria, Numbay, Waimorok.

Jayapura Mayor Dr. Benhur Tomi Mano, MM said that our 2020 target of the city of Jayapura is slum-free and realized from 2015 - 2019 and there was a reduction in cities without slums whose area was originally 107 Ha to 26.45 Ha for 2019.

"The community feels my city programs, such as clean water sanitation, cage roads, building order in the River Basin (DAS). We hope this program will be further developed given the population of the city of Jayapura which is increasingly accompanied by the number of dwellings, "he said.
