Nop Goliat Airport was Developed as a Liaison inland in Papua

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemhub) is pushing for the Nop Goliat Airport in Dekai, Papua as a hub to and from remote areas of Papua. Currently, this role is served by Wamena Airport, Jayawijaya, which is now lacking in capacity.
.
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) plans to make the Nop Goliat Dekai Airport a hub, aka the connecting airport. The reason, Wamena Airport is already very crowded in addition to its location at an altitude.
.
"In the middle of Papua, it is represented by Wamena, but Wamena's position is at an altitude and has been overloaded. Dekai Airport has a 2,300 meter long runway and can reach 2,500 meters and the land is very ideal. In the future we want logistical distribution from and to Dekai, "said the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi in his statement on Monday (10/14/2019).
.
The Minister of Transportation added, another reason for choosing Nop Goliat Airport as a hub was because Dekai could be reached from Asmat and Mappi (Papua) via rivers so that it could increase logistical loads to be distributed to the interior of Papua through Dekai.
.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the Ministry of Transportation would develop the airport in the Dekai district, Yahukimo Regency. One of them by extending the runway (runway) from 2,300 meters to 2,500 meters.
.
Dekai can be an alternative because to overcome the problem of capacity shortages at Wamena Airport requires huge funds, which is Rp 1.8 trillion. The budget is needed for the extension of the runway to dredging.
.
"Even if it will be developed, we will limit it according to our ability. We will not impose an expensive construction engineering. At present the Dekai Airport has become a 2,300 m runway," Budi added.
