Waiting for the birth of the Space Airport in Biak Numfor

Waiting for the birth of the Space Airport in Biak Numfor

Although Indonesia already has 25 satellites, this country has no place to launch large-scale satellites. Soon Indonesia has a satellite launch site, exactly four years from now, True, 2024 this country will have its own space airport, located in Biak, Papua.
.
This country has a long history of satellite ownership since the launch of the first satellite, Palapa-A1, which was launched on June 8, 1976. Until now, as many as 25 satellites registered as belonging to Indonesia in the sky, both private, state-owned and government-owned .
.
Finally, two satellites owned by Indonesia that orbit, Telkom-4 Merah Putih Satellite owned by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) and Nusantara-1 satellite owned by PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), both satellites were launched in August 2018.
.
Since the launch of the first USSR satellite on October 4, 1957, there have been at least 1,300 satellites in orbit. Referring to the "2017 State of the Satellite Industry Association" report, there are four interests of the satellite, namely telecommunications, earth observation, science, and national security.
.
Unfortunately, even though Indonesia has a long history as a satellite consumer, this country has no place to launch large-scale satellites. There is indeed a launching place for the Lapan mlik satellite (National Institute of Aviation and Space) in the Garut region. Pameungpeuk. But that region is no longer possible to be developed. There are only for the 40 cm rocket class, which although still in the safe category is still risky.
.
This is the background of Lapan's plan to establish a satellite launch site in Soukobye Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua. No half-hearted, the agency is ready to hold international partners to realize that dream.
.
"It is very possible with international parties as well. So this is also being sought to later not be a small Space Airport, but an International Space Airport," Lapan Chair Thomas Djamaluddin told Antara in Jakarta on Thursday (11/07/2019).
.
Lapan currently has not calculated how much funding is likely to be spent on the construction of the Antariksa Airport, which is planned to be built in Soukobye Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province. What is clear, the funds come from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) and the Partnership of the Government and Business Entities (PPP).
.
Going forward, Indonesia, with its superior location on the equator or equator, can provide satellite rocket launching services. So far Lapan has contacted several international partners, both government and private institutions from China, Japan, Korea, India and Russia.
.
This will certainly be the pride of the Papuan people in particular and Indonesia in general. In addition, with this space facility, it will also trigger Papuan children to study science and technology. So that in the future more and more Papuan sons will be involved in this Space Airport.
