Build a New Airport in West Papua Immediately Realize

The Ministry of Transportation received a land grant from the Government of Fakfak Regency, West Papua. This land will be built by the airport to support air connectivity in the West Papua region.

"We really appreciate the participation of the Fakfak Regency Government in improving the development of transportation, especially air transportation in the West Papua Region," said Director General of Civil Aviation, Polana B. Pramesti, in a press release on Friday (12/27/2019).

Polana revealed, with the implementation of the grant process through the signing of the Official Report on the Handover of State Property and the Regional Grant Agreement Manuscript, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had planned the construction of a New Airport in Siboru in Fakfak Regency, West Papua.

"The implementation of the land grant can support the acceleration of airport development and is an orderly administrative step to support the implementation of the budget in accordance with statutory provisions," said Polana.

The construction of the New Airport in Siboru - Fakfak is aimed at building a transportation network node, an economic gateway, and supporting economic and trade activities in the West Papua Region.

It is hoped that the Airport Development in Siboru - Fakfak can be carried out fully in accordance with the standards that refer to the laws and regulations for the creation of safe, comfortable and safe flight operations.

The Handover of Regional Ownership (BMD) and the Regional Grant Agreement were signed jointly by the Regent of Fakfak Regency, in this case represented by the Regional Secretary of the Fakfak Regency Government, Ali Baham Temongmere, witnessed by officials in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Fakfak Regency Government.

The Fakfak Regency Government has granted land located in Siboru Village, Wartutin District, Fakfak Regency, covering an area of ​​700,000 m2 which will be used for the construction of the New Airport in Siboru.

At present, Fakfak Regency has UPBU Torea-Fakfak as one of its accesses to and from Fakfak. Torea Airport is flown by ATR 72 aircraft and only has a runway length of 1200 x 30 m, an apron of 70 x 120 m and a taxiway width of 19 meters.

The Director General of Civil Aviation also received a 1,947,000 m2 Domine Edward Osok-Sorong Airport land certificate that had been sought by the Head of UPBU Domine Eduard Osok-Sorong for administrative order, on Tuesday, 17 December 2019.
