Jayapura Regent Promises Appreciation for Serious Education

Increasing school participation must be balanced with adequate infrastructure, especially in supporting 9-year learning programs. The number of elementary school infrastructure in Jayapura district is 128 units, 43 units of SLTP, 23 units of Senior High / Vocational School in 2018.

The amount of infrastructure is certainly not relevant to the number of teaching teachers assigned at each school. Specifically for the Primary School level in Jayapura Regency both the National and Private Schools, the total number of teacher staff reached 831 people, while the total number of students amounted to 19,418 people with 852 classrooms used.

Under these conditions, the Jayapura Regent, Mathius Awoitauw admitted that his side continued to pay serious attention to the world of education in the region he was leading.

It was said, the awarding was a small part of the program arranged by the relevant agencies to spur all the people in their concern for education in their respective villages.

"There is no other way, only education can change everything," said Regent Awoitauw.

According to the Jayapura Regent, the efforts carried out by the Regional Government have been quite successful, despite the need for improvements and additions in various sectors.

"Teacher contracts for three consecutive years are recruited and placed in remote areas. There are results to be proud of," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of Jayapura Regency Education Office, Ted.Y.Mokay said, next year it will give awards in the form of trophies and certificates to the Kampung who seriously pay attention to the world of education in each Kampung.

This, according to Ted, is a form of attention to the village officials but also the people who are really serious about giving attention to the world of education, specifically the basic education, and kindergartens.

"Previously there was no program. We hope that teaching and learning activities in schools continue to run smoothly, the presence of teachers, student activity and supervision that continues to be carried out by the village community itself," he concluded.
