Now the Province of Papua has eight MHP units

Papua Province in 2019 has even had eight Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH) to meet the energy needs in the area.
.
Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, FX Sutijastoto in Ilaga, Papua, on Saturday, said that the eight PLTMHs were built with APBN funds.
.
In addition to PLTMH, EBT infrastructure development for Papua Province using APBN funds that have been carried out so far have been: 42 units of centralized PLTS, 1. 090 units of PJU-TS, and 223,805 units of LTSHE (solar panel lights).
.
Specifically in Puncak Regency, Papua, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2019 has built 300 units of Solar Street Public Lighting (PJU-TS). From 2016 to 2019, 725 PJU-TS Lamp Units have been built in Puncak District.
.
On the same occasion, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif inaugurated the Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) in Ilaga, Puncak District, Papua. "Hopefully this will be able to open up opportunities for economic improvement in Ilaga, after there is electricity in this area," the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources said in his remarks.
.
The PLTMH has a capacity of 2x350 kw, with this capacity it is able to provide electricity to 600 households in Ilaga District, having a contract value of Rp99.3 billion.
.
The PLTMH was built in 2016, by cooperating with PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) as its contractor. With the completion of the construction of the PLTMH in Ilaga Arifin, he is optimistic that all of Papua will be able to get electricity properly.
.
"This region is rich in energy sources, abundant rivers and sun that can be captured by energy with solar panels," he said. According to Arifin, the PLTMH project will be an example for other regions of Papua to later be made similar generators in Papua that are in need.
.
The challenge of building a PLTMH in Ilaga is that the area consists of mountains and valleys. In addition, there is no land transportation that is able to reach these cold temperatures.
