Papua Is Safe If ULMWP and KNPB Leaders Arrested

Papua Is Safe If ULMWP and KNPB Leaders Arrested

The security situation in Papua is gradually becoming conducive. Community activities began to run normally as usual. However, the security situation has not been truly conducive, as long as the figures included in the rioting group have not been arrested.

The two groups are the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) and the West Papua National Committee (KNPB). Meanwhile, the ULMWP or the United Liberation Movement for West Papua is a political organization to fight for the independence of West Papua. The organization is led by Benny Wenda. Meanwhile, KNPB is a people's political organization and a Papuan community group campaigning for West Papua's independence.

Officials will continue to hunt for leaders from the two organizations, if not arrested, the potential for security threats will continue to exist. The troops currently in Papua will not be withdrawn until an unspecified deadline. Until now, related to the riots in Wamena, the police have set 13 suspects. Ten suspects have now been arrested and three others are on the wanted list (DPO).

The masterminds of the riots in Jayapura were ULMWP and KNPB. From ULMWP, the police have arrested Buchtar Tabuni who serves as Deputy Chair II. Meanwhile, from KNPB, now its leaders Agus Kossay and Steven Itlay as Mimika Regional Chair have been arrested.
