Sorong-Mega National Road in West Papua Complete 2021

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is working on the construction of the Sorong - Makbon - Mega National Road in West Papua to be completed in 2021.

"The Sorong - Makbon - Mega National Road construction has been carried out along 103 km and the conditions are not yet asphalted 34 km, currently an auction has been held for the remainder of the road construction and is planned to be completed by the end of 2021," said Head of the National Road Implementation Center XVII Manokwari, Ministry of PUPR , Satrio Sugeng Prayitno in an official statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing through the Directorate General (DG) of Bina Marga is constructing the Sorong - Makbon - Mega National Road section, which is a logistical route to support the northern crossing of Tambrauw Regency and Werur Airport, West Papua.

Meanwhile, Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives expressed its appreciation to the Ministry of PUPR for the support of infrastructure implemented in West Papua Province. The working visit directly observes the implementation of infrastructure and transportation as well as finding solutions for the smooth running of community activities, especially in Tambrauw Regency, West Papua Province.

"The people of West Papua really need a break through social isolation, through the construction of roads in West Papua, it is expected to be able to connect villages, districts, districts and provinces," said member of the DPR RI Commission V, Jimmy Demianus Ijie.

Previously the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Wempi Wetipo, explained that the severe geographical conditions hampered infrastructure development in the regions of Papua and West Papua.

According to him, with the difficult terrain and expensive logistic distribution, there was an imbalance in the prices of building materials and basic goods. Wempi explained that a number of programs included BBM One Price to the construction of the Trans Papua road.

Nevertheless, President Joko Widodo's development and equity distribution program is expected to be able to open isolated areas in Papua.
