Children Forced to Raise Arms Because of Lack of Members

Children Forced to Raise Arms Because of Lack of Members

Through its social media accounts, the Free Papua Movement (OPM) has revealed that they also recruit children as troops to kill people. They say, children are easier to be doctrined than to teach stupid adults.

The act violated relevant International Humanitarian Law to protect children. if there are parties that involve children as killing machines in disputes or battles, then that party has violated human rights and humanitarian law.

Article 38 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which requires states or parties to the conflict as stated in Article 77 (2) Additional Protocol I places an obligation on parties to the conflict not to recruit children who have not reached 15 years of age into the armed forces and involve them in a way directly in the battle.

Then in Article 4 paragraph 3 of Additional Protocol II 1977 of the 1949 Geneva Convention, which is used for an internal conflict of a country, meaning that the conflict is internal within the country, it also reinforces international agreements on child protection.

If it is true that the KKB has recruited children to take part in fighting in the conflict in Nduga, or in general in Papua, then this shows that they are wild and brutal groups that are uncivilized, who do not understand the rules, laws and regulations -invitation.

The acts of violence committed by the KKB deprived citizens of their human rights, deprived citizens of their rights to get education, health services and opportunities to get a decent life.
