Freeport Ready to Invest Rp 272 Trillion in Papua

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) stated its commitment to invest in Papua, Indonesia, amounting to USD 20 billion or around Rp 272.9 trillion (exchange rate of Rp 13,645). The nominal is a commitment for the next 20 years or until 2041.
.
PTFI President Director Tony Wenas said, "We have already invested USD 15 billion in Papua or IDR 200 trillion. In the future it will invest USD 20 billion in the next 20 years, so it is approximately USD 1 billion per year around IDR 14-15 trillion per year. , "Tony said.
.
According to him, the investment is aimed at underground mining which will continue. This of course still requires a fee. He hoped that the investment would be beneficial for Indonesia, especially in Papua. Especially now that 51 percent of Freeport shares are owned by Indonesia.
.
"What's important is, I say 51 percent is owned by Indonesia, and of the 51 percent, 10 percent has Papua, the Provincial Government and the Regency Government. And the results can be utilized for the development of Papua," he said.
.
In addition, Tony hopes that incoming investment can also create a wider impact on the Indonesian economy. "And of course an investment of that size will go into every year to create a huge multiplier effect," he added.
