Judge Rejects Exception, Six Papuan Activists Threatened 20 Years in Prison

The Panel of Judges of the Central Jakarta District Court rejected the exception of six Papuan activists who had been proven guilty of treason related to the raising of the Morning Star flag at the State Palace some time ago.

"It is not acceptable to state the objection or exception note submitted by the defendant's legal advisor," said Judge Agustinus Setya Wahyu Triwantoro, Chief Justice

The reading of the interim decision was divided by three case files. The case of the four defendants became one file, namely Paulus Suryanta Ginting, Charles Kossay, Ambrose Mulait, and Isay Wenda.

Meanwhile, defendants Anes Tabuni and Arina Elopere each had one separate case file. Thus, the trial of six Papuan activists continued with the examination of witnesses on Monday (2/3/2020) next week.

In that decision, the Panel of Judges stated that the indictment prepared by the Prosecutor was in accordance with the applicable regulations. In fact, the Prosecutor has compiled the indictment in a complete and formal manner. Surya Anta and his five friends face up to 20 years in prison for careless violating the law.
