KKB Outrage That Hostages and Rapes

The armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya held hostages of a number of health workers and 15 teachers in Mapenduma. They received cruel treatment, and even one of the teachers experienced rapes while taking hostage.

Teachers and paramedics were held hostage for 14 days in October 2018. They were finally rescued with the help of the Mapenduma Head Health Center, Naftali Wandikbo.

"It is true that there have been reports of 15 teachers and health workers who survived after being held hostage by the KKB from October 3 to 17," said Head of Papua Police Public Relations Commissioner Ahmad Kamal in Jayapura.

He confirmed that besides holding hostages, the KKB also raped one of the teachers who took turns. "What the KKB is doing to victims who teach at SD YPGRI 1 is beyond humanitarian limits," he said.

From the reports he received, the action carried out by the KKB was suspected to be suspicious of the presence of teachers and medical personnel who were undercover security forces to monitor their activities.
