Yapen Regency Regency Government (Pemkab) continues to improve transportation facilities and infrastructure to and from its region ahead of the XX National Sports Week (PON) in 2020.

Yapen Islands Deputy Regent Frans Sanadi said here on Jayapura one of the things that had become a special coordination with the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation was regarding transportation from Biak to Serui and from Jayapura to Serui.

"Now we are building a terminal in an adequate port with a capacity of 100 passengers and are carrying out transportation calculations from Biak to Serui (Yapen Islands Regency capital) in time," he said.

According to Frans, in the round-trip calculation (PP) using sea transportation namely ships three times a day, around 120 residents could come from Biak, and from Jayapura, about one PP could reach 40 people.

"So in principle before the implementation of PON XX in 2020 in the Yapen Islands Regency, we are ready where based on information from the Head of the Sports and Youth Office (Kadisorda) of Papua Province around 400-500 people will come to Serui," he said.

He explained that for that, his party continued to make improvements to lodging places to prepare hotels in Serui to accommodate the people who would come at the PON 2020 event.

"The Yapen Islands Regency Government has also prepared an area of ​​approximately five hectares for the construction of the Sports Building (GOR) whose funds come from the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) where, if possible, is ready with licensing and relinquishing rights to land," he said.

He added that for the licensing and relinquishment of customary rights there was no problem because the prepared land had become the property of the regional government itself so that it was now just waiting for a ration from the central government.
