Red and White Papuan People Refuse OPM Anniversary

The celebration of the Independence Day of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) on December 1 became a scourge for the community. OPM's actions which often act viciously became one of the reasons for the group being rejected by the community. Ahead of the anniversary of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) on December 1, the Papua Regional Police succeeded in capturing the leader of the Papuan KKB armed criminal group, Iris Murib. Iris was arrested when she was allegedly looking for ammunition in preparation for the OPM Anniversary in Timika.

Iris was arrested in Kali Pindah -indah, Jalan Trans Timika-Nabire, Iwaka district at around 14:21 WIT. It is suspected that when Iris was arrested, she was going to Tembagapura to join the other KKB and prepare the OPM Anniversary.

Previously, adat leaders in Papua had also stated their stubborn objections related to the assumption that December 1 was the day of Papuan independence. Because history has shown that Papua has become an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

He also called on all parties, especially ex-combatants, community leaders, religious leaders, traditional leaders, Papuan youth and women to work together to eradicate separatist groups who want to harm the Papuan people under the pretext of independence and prosperity which are only a deceit of the separatists and politics that harm society.

The rejection of the KKB was not only happening in Indonesia, the separatist group also often caused trouble on the Indonesian border with Papua New Guinea. This made Papuan New Guinea residents on the Indonesian border speak out.
